Lamine Yamal has said he is fit to play a full 90 minutes for Spain against Austria and believes the team can sharpen up as the tournament moves into the knockout rounds.
Speaking to Radio COPE, the Barcelona winger said Spain’s level should be judged by results, not by whether they have impressed in the group stage.
He pointed to past sides that played well but went out early, adding that winning matters more than leaving the pitch satisfied. Yamal also said Spain are better than what they have shown so far, but argued that the next games will define the campaign.
The 17-year-old also reflected on his return from injury and his goal against Saudi Arabia, calling it one of the happiest moments of his life. He said he goes into every match believing he can win the World Cup.
Yamal closed by saying he does not usually read criticism, but knows he carries hope for Spain’s supporters and can change a game.
