Match report
Al Riyadh beat Al Taawon 2-1 at SHG Arena after Teddy Okou and Bernard Mensah scored either side of a late reply from Nedim Bajrami. A VAR review also wiped out an Abderrazak Hamdallah goal on the stroke of half-time.
Okou opened the scoring in the 39th minute, finishing from Bernard Mensah to make it 1-0. Just before the break, Hamdallah had a goal ruled out by VAR, and Al Riyadh went in with a 1-0 lead.
Al Riyadh doubled that lead in the 76th minute when Mensah scored to make it 2-0. Al Taawon pulled one back on 78 minutes through Bajrami, who had come on in the 72nd minute, but the home side held on through the closing stages after making changes of their own, with Teddy Okou going off in the 86th minute and Al Taawon sending on Mohammed Al-Aqel in the 90th minute.
The numbers showed Al Taawon had 62% of the ball and 558 passes to Al Riyadh's 339, while the home side finished with more shots, 13 to 10, more on target, 6 to 4, and a higher xG figure of 1.46 to 0.42. Al Taawon also won 10 corners to Al Riyadh's 2, while the hosts made 3 saves and Al Taawon made 4.
Mohammed Bassam Al Hurayji was booked in the 13th minute for Al Taawon, and Ibrahim Mohannashi was yellow-carded three minutes into stoppage time.
