Barcelona have officially signed Karim Adeyemi from Borussia Dortmund, completing one of their headline moves of the summer.
The 24-year-old has joined on a five-year deal, with the transfer reported at €22 million plus €7 million in bonuses and variable clauses. Dortmund, who had him under contract for one more season, have also kept a 20% sell-on clause for any future profit.
Barcelona finalised the move quickly with Hansi Flick and Deco involved in the decision-making. The club wanted a forward who can operate on either wing and as a central striker, and Adeyemi fits that brief.
Flick already knows the Germany international well from their time together with the national team, where Adeyemi made his senior debut under the Barcelona coach. His pace, physicality, direct running and pressing are seen as strong matches for Flick’s style.
Barcelona plan to use Adeyemi in rotation with Lamine Yamal in some matches and across several attacking positions. His arrival has also increased the chances of Rony Bardghji leaving the club.
