Egypt head coach Hossam Hassan launched a fierce attack on FIFA and the officials after his side’s defeat to Argentina, saying the match went beyond what happened on the pitch.
Speaking in his post-match press conference, Hassan said FIFA talks about fairness but that the reality was the opposite. He claimed Egypt were the better side and argued that the game lacked justice and fair play.
Hassan also suggested there were commercial motives behind keeping the world champions and Lionel Messi in the tournament, saying that could suit FIFA’s marketing and publicity interests.
He ended by saying the issue was not only the result, but the absence of respect and fair play during the game. Hassan added that he would not follow any more matches at the World Cup in protest at what he described as the injustice done to Egypt.
