Possible Farewell for Martínez After Defeat in the World Cup Final

Emiliano Martínez has raised the prospect of stepping away from Argentina after the 2026 World Cup final defeat to Spain.

The 33-year-old goalkeeper said the loss hit hard and left him thinking about his future with the national team. Martínez, known as Diبو Martínez in the source, said he had kept dreaming of lifting the trophy again and bringing the title back to Argentina.

He added that the next few days would be a period of reflection as he weighs up whether the time has come to retire from international football.

"It is very difficult to explain this pain," he said. "All I can do is think about the road ahead to see whether it is time to step away or not."

Martínez also apologised to Argentina fans and said he had given everything during the tournament to help his country and his team-mates.

His remarks have added to the uncertainty around Argentina's post-World Cup rebuild, with replacing him set to be a major task for the coaching staff.
