France booked their place in the 2026 World Cup last 16 with a 3-0 win over Sweden at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
Didier Deschamps' side controlled the knockout tie after a cautious start and eventually broke Sweden down before half-time. Mbappé saw an early goal ruled out for offside, then hit the post, while Michael Olise also struck the woodwork and Ousmane Dembélé narrowly missed the rebound.
France's pressure told in the 45th minute when Mbappé scored his 17th World Cup goal. Bradley Barcola made it 2-0 in the 53rd minute, and Mbappé added his second in the 75th after combining with Olise.
The result sends France into the last 16 against Paraguay, who have already caused an upset by eliminating Germany.
