England came from behind to beat the Democratic Republic of Congo 2-1 in the 2026 World Cup last 16 in Atlanta, with Harry Kane scoring both goals for Thomas Tuchel’s side.
Congo struck first in the seventh minute when Chancel Mbemba found Bryan Sipenga, who finished past Jordan Pickford. England pushed for an equaliser before the break, but Lionel Mpasi kept out Jude Bellingham’s header in the 30th minute, while a Marcus Rashford effort was cleared off the line five minutes later. Yoane Wissa also went close late in the half, hitting the post.
England raised the tempo after the interval. Mpasi denied Bellingham again, this time from a left-footed effort, before Anthony Gordon’s cross set up Kane to level the game with a header. Kane then completed the turnaround in the 86th minute with a powerful finish to spare England from an early exit.
