Mbappé: Ronaldo was my role model

Kylian Mbappé has said Cristiano Ronaldo has gone from childhood idol to friend, as he discussed his dream dinner guests and the Ballon d'Or in a new interview with The Athletic.

Mbappé said Ronaldo was once his role model, but is now “a friend” who gives him advice and support. He added that he likes spending time with the former Real Madrid forward and will always back him in return.

The France striker’s other dinner picks were Michael Jordan, Serena Williams and Rihanna. Mbappé described Jordan as an inspiration and said he would like to meet him again to talk about his career. He said he chose Serena because she is an athlete he admires, while Rihanna was his final pick.

Mbappé also spoke about the Ballon d’Or, saying he is not ashamed to say what he thinks and is not afraid to surprise people. He said he has never claimed he will definitely win it, but believes he has had a good season and noted that many people have linked his name with the prize.
