Germany’s Nations League campaign has started badly under Jürgen Klopp, with one win from four games and a 0-0 draw against Greece adding to the pressure on his side.
Germany fail to break Greece down
Germany controlled much of the match and created several chances, but Greece held firm and kept the game goalless. Jonathan Burkardt had a goal ruled out in the 32nd minute after a VAR review found a handball in the build-up.
That result leaves Germany on five points from four matches and third in the group. The Netherlands and Greece are both on eight points at the top of the table, which has made qualification harder for Klopp’s team.
Young players offer a few positives
Derry Scherhant was one of the few bright spots for Germany in his second senior appearance. He was active on the left, set up one possible assist and hit the post once.
Florian Wirtz said the team had worked hard but had not turned that effort into the result it wanted. Scherhant said Germany played well in the first half but failed to take its chances.
Klopp defended his side after the match, saying teams that defend deep are always difficult to break down and that Germany have not had enough time together to settle. His first four games in charge have brought one win, two draws and one defeat.
