The second round of the 2026–27 UEFA Nations League continued on Sunday night with four matches in League A, highlighted by Germany’s historic defeat to Greece. Elsewhere, the Netherlands, Portugal and Denmark all collected three points to strengthen their positions in their respective groups.
In the standout fixture in Group A2, Germany suffered a 1–0 home defeat to Greece. Dimitris Kourbelis scored the only goal of the game with a deflected effort, securing Greece’s first-ever victory over Germany.
The result was a major setback for Jürgen Klopp’s side early in the campaign, with Germany having also been held to a 1–1 draw by the Netherlands in their opening match. Greece, meanwhile, continued their impressive start to life in League A after beating Serbia 2–1 in their first fixture.
The other match in the group saw the Netherlands claim a 2–1 victory over Serbia in Belgrade. Mexx Meerdink, making his first start for the Dutch national team, scored both goals for the Oranje.
Meerdink opened the scoring from the penalty spot before Luka Jović equalised for Serbia. The Dutch forward then struck again with a clinical finish to seal all three points for the Netherlands.
In Group A4, Portugal defeated Norway 2–1 in Oslo. Gonçalo Ramos scored the decisive goal as Portugal celebrated their second consecutive victory, having opened their Nations League campaign with a 1–0 win over Wales.
Norway, who had started the competition with an entertaining 3–2 victory over Denmark, were unable to make home advantage count this time around.
In the other Group A4 fixture, Denmark beat Wales 2–0 to secure their first three points of the campaign. The victory was particularly important for the Danes after their 3–2 defeat to Norway in the opening round.
Wales, meanwhile, suffered their second consecutive defeat and have endured a difficult start to this edition of the Nations League.
Overall, Greece have emerged as one of the early surprise packages of the competition. Back-to-back victories over Serbia and Germany have shown that their presence in the Nations League’s top tier is far from ceremonial.
Portugal have also made an impressive start with two wins from two, while Germany have collected just one point from their opening two matches following a draw with the Netherlands and a home defeat to Greece.
