Carlos Tevez has confirmed that Lionel Messi will take part in his farewell match at La Bombonera on 20 December 2026.
Messi and Riquelme set for La Bombonera
Tevez told Rio Ferdinand, the former Manchester United defender, that Messi will be involved in the game at Boca Juniors' stadium. He also said Juan Román Riquelme, the Boca legend and current club president, will be present.
The event is being held in honour of Tevez's career. He became one of Boca's most popular figures and also played for Manchester United, Manchester City and Juventus.
Tevez made 279 appearances for Boca, scored 94 goals and won 11 trophies.
More former stars linked with the event
Messi will not be the only big name attached to the occasion. Sergio Agüero, Patrice Evra, Arturo Vidal, Gianluigi Buffon and Edwin van der Sar have also been mentioned among the guests.
Talk of a possible invitation to Cristiano Ronaldo has drawn extra attention, after Tevez said earlier that he would like the Portugal forward to be involved. Ronaldo's presence has not been confirmed.
The match at La Bombonera could bring together Argentina's golden generation and several former team-mates from Tevez's career.
