Julian Nagelsmann said Germany should have settled the tie before it reached penalties after their World Cup 2026 exit to Paraguay.
The Germany coach said the dressing room was filled with disappointment after the shootout defeat. He added that football can turn on small margins and criticised his side for taking too long to force Paraguay back towards their own goal.
Nagelsmann also pointed to Germany's slow build-up from deep and said they could have put more balls into the penalty area.
On his own future, he said he is not the type to walk away. If the German Football Association wants him through to 2028, he said he will continue and would be happy to prepare the team for Euro 2028 and the Nations League. If not, he added, the federation should tell him directly. He said he would like to stay in charge.
