Spanish FA chief hails De la Fuente after World Cup win

Rafael Luzán has praised Luis de la Fuente after Spain won the 2026 World Cup, saying the head coach deserves the credit for the team’s success.

Speaking to Cadena COPE, the Spanish FA president said Spain now have "the best coach in the world" and described de la Fuente as the best manager in the national team’s history. Luzán also said that, if the youth teams are included, de la Fuente is Spain’s most successful coach on titles.

He added that de la Fuente would remain in post for as long as he wants.

Luzán, who took over as president in December 2024, said the victory had brought him the biggest joy of his time in office so far. He said he was trying to stay calm and had not yet fully processed the scale of the achievement.
