Ter Stegen set to complete one-year Ajax loan

Marc-André ter Stegen is set to leave Barcelona’s pre-season camp in England and travel to Amsterdam in the next few hours to complete a one-year loan to Ajax.

Tax dispute delayed the move

The deal between the clubs had already been in place for days, but minor tax issues held up the final paperwork. Those problems have now been cleared.

The delay centred on who would cover taxes created by the different rules in the Netherlands and Spain. Ter Stegen believed the cost should be borne by the clubs, while Ajax were unwilling to take on the extra bill. Barcelona eventually found a way through the impasse.

The 34-year-old did travel to St George’s Park with the rest of the squad, although Hansi Flick and Barcelona decided he should join the group in England. He did not train with his team-mates on Thursday evening.
