Messi and Ronaldo likely to play in Tevez's farewell match

Carlos Tévez is preparing a farewell match at La Bombonera more than four years after announcing his retirement.

December date being lined up

Tévez has spoken with Boca Juniors president Juan Román Riquelme, a former team-mate, and has received the go-ahead to hold the game at the club’s stadium, according to TyC Sports. The match is expected to take place in December, although the exact date has not been set.

The weekends of 12 and 13 December, and 19 and 20 December, have been mentioned as possible options. Boca’s possible involvement in the closing stages of domestic competition could still affect the final decision.

Messi and Ronaldo among the planned guests

Tévez wants to put together one side made up of football friends and old acquaintances, with another group of players who shared dressing rooms with him during his career. Given his time at Manchester United, Manchester City, Juventus, Corinthians, Boca and with Argentina, around 60 well-known football figures could attend.

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo stand out among the names he hopes to invite. Tévez played alongside Messi for Argentina and alongside Ronaldo at Manchester United, but neither appearance is confirmed.

The former Boca forward made 279 appearances for the club, scored 94 goals and won 11 trophies. He officially ended his playing career in June 2022 and now wants one last outing in front of Boca supporters at the ground where much of his career was built.
