The 2026 World Cup final is on course to become the most expensive sporting event on record on the secondary ticket market, according to reports cited by The Athletic.
SeatGeek said the average price of sold tickets on its platform has reached $12,751, which is more than $2,000 higher than the previous record of $10,540 for Super Bowl 2024 in Las Vegas.
That figure also sits above the recent NBA Finals market, where Game 3 between the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs averaged $9,033. StubHub said demand for the World Cup final remains strong, outstripping Super Bowl 2024 and even a hypothetical Game 6 of the NBA Finals, although that sixth game never took place after the Knicks won the title in five.
The final will be held at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, with a World Cup capacity of more than 80,600. That scale is a factor in comparisons with other major events, including the Super Bowl at Allegiant Stadium, which held 61,629, and NBA games at Madison Square Garden. Industry experts also said Wimbledon, the Masters, Olympic finals, boxing and the Champions League final can reach similar territory, but not on average resale prices and volume.
