Harry Kane said he had lost his voice after England’s 3-2 win over Mexico in the World Cup last 16 at the Azteca Stadium.
England reached the quarter-finals despite playing with 10 men from the 54th minute, after Jarrel Quansah was sent off. Kane played a decisive role in the win, setting up Jude Bellingham’s goal, winning a penalty and then converting it for England’s third.
Speaking to BBC Sport, Kane said the match had been “crazy” and that his side had to fight until the final whistle to find a way through.
He added that he had spent the game singing with the England fans and could barely talk afterwards. Kane also said that everything seemed to be against England on the night, but the team still found a route to victory.
The Bayern Munich striker referred to Mexico’s penalty, which led to their second goal, saying he thought he had touched the ball first before contact with an opponent. He also said the referee made several decisions against England, though they did not change the result.
Kane praised the travelling support as well, calling it “incredible” at the Azteca.
