Jürgen Klinsmann has tipped Egypt to emerge as one of world football’s major powers after their run at the 2026 World Cup.
The former Germany and United States coach said Egypt and Norway both have the capacity to develop into top teams over the next decade and a half. Speaking to FIFA’s official website, he suggested both nations could be inside the world’s top 10 within 15 to 20 years.
Egypt reached the round of 16 at the tournament before losing 3-2 to Argentina, despite leading 2-0. Klinsmann said that showing underlined the scale of the country’s potential.
He also pointed to Egypt’s standing in African football. The national side, he said, is always among the main contenders at the Africa Cup of Nations, reaches the late stages regularly and has players in major European leagues.
Klinsmann added that Egypt still has some way to go to match Morocco’s run to the 2022 World Cup semi-finals, but said the country’s future looks bright.
