Julian Nagelsmann’s future as Germany head coach is in doubt after the national side were knocked out of the 2026 World Cup on penalties by Paraguay.
According to reports in Germany, the DFB has held an emergency meeting and asked Nagelsmann to explain the team’s performance. The federation is said to be considering his departure, with dismissal reportedly an option if he does not resign.
Local coverage has described Germany’s tournament display as tactically disjointed and pointed to problems with communication and management inside the camp.
Jürgen Klopp has emerged as the leading candidate to replace Nagelsmann. Reports say his current contract contains a clause that could allow him to leave if the German federation makes an official approach.
Pep Guardiola has also been mentioned in the speculation, although a move for the Manchester City manager is viewed as less likely.
There are also reports that several senior players, including Manuel Neuer, Antonio Rüdiger, Leroy Sané and Leon Goretzka, may consider stepping away from international football after the early exit.
