Manchester City explored a move for Aleksandar Pavlovic and were prepared to spend up to €100 million, but the Bayern Munich midfielder turned them down before formal negotiations started.

City’s midfield target

According to BILD and SPORT1, City first checked Pavlovic’s situation in March and viewed the 22-year-old as a leading target for a midfield rebuild. The reports say Enzo Maresca also pushed for the move as City prepared for changes in the middle of the pitch.

Player stays in Munich

Pavlovic was said to be satisfied at Bayern and had no interest in leaving the club he has been with since 2011. The reports add that his main aim is to win the Champions League with Bayern.

City never made a formal bid, with Bayern aware of the interest but no offer reaching the club once Pavlovic made his stance clear. The Germany international is under contract until 2029 and is considered an important option under Vincent Kompany alongside Joshua Kimmich.
