Real Madrid academy sales near record 200m summer haul

Real Madrid are closing in on a record-breaking summer of income from academy-player sales, with their total set to move beyond previous benchmarks and towards €200m.

Gonzalo deal finalised

Gonzalo’s transfer to Fulham has been completed as the second-biggest sale of the window, worth €40m plus €2m in add-ons for 70% of his rights. He did not take part in training while the deal was being wrapped up.

Madrid have kept 30% of his future rights and a buy-back option, leaving the door open for a return.

Palacios and others add to total

César Palacios is also close to joining Fulham in a deal expected to be worth between €8m and €10m plus add-ons, with Madrid again holding a sell-on clause and buy-back right.

Including Gonzalo and eight other exits — Nico Paz, Víctor Muñoz, Mario Gila, Álvaro Rodríguez, Álex Jiménez, Fran García, Mario Martín and Valdepeñas — Madrid’s income has reached €175.5m. That figure would rise to €185.5m once Palacios is confirmed, and Jacobo Ortega’s expected €8m move to Strasbourg for 50% of his rights would take it to €193.5m.

Talks also continue over goalkeeper Fran González’s move to Sevilla. With a month left in the transfer window, the €200m mark is within reach.
