Real Madrid have made an opening €50 million bid for Rodri, according to Cadena COPE, marking the formal start of talks with Manchester City.
Negotiations begin
The Spanish broadcaster says discussions between the clubs had previously been limited to early contact, but the latest offer pushes the move into proper negotiations. Madrid have reportedly already reached broad agreement on personal terms with the Spain midfielder.
Rodri is said to be one of José Mourinho's main targets as he looks to strengthen Madrid's midfield. Florentino Pérez has also given the green light after months of hesitation.
City want a higher fee
Manchester City are understood to value Rodri above Madrid's initial offer and are expected to seek around €60 million or more. The Premier League club still hope to extend his contract, but his current deal runs until next summer.
That has raised the chance of a sale this window rather than risking a free transfer later. If a deal is completed, Rodri would return to Spanish football after a long spell in England.
